The future assignment for developing SDV technology

[Consumerwide - HueSoung Jun Reporter / Yohan Bok Reporter] Vehicle experts in Korea perceive that practical roadmaps and strategies are indispensable for the vitalization of the SDV industry, ultimately aiming to strengthen the future competitiveness of the Korean vehicle industry. During a panel discussion on the 21st Korea Automobile Day, Lee Hanggu, the director of the Institute of Automotive Convergence Technology; Yang Jinsu, the director of HMG Strategy’s Research Team; Lee Jaegwan, the director of the Korea Automotive Technology Institute; and Hong Sungsu, a professor at Seoul University, spoke about ways to improve the mobility industry in the future.
This report is based on the speech of Hong Sungsu, a professor at Seoul National University in the department of Electrical and Information Engineering, regarding the future SDV assignment.
Hong Sungsu, the professor, perceives that the Korean vehicle industry has got to learn the technology limit regarding SDV in Korea and strive to enhance future technology.

Hong, the professor, said, "SDV began a decade ago (2015) in Germany as a marketing idea, and today the market is paying attention as the system that has the capacity to respond to a subscription service's needs while creating a new profit business. For this reason, the Korean vehicle industry has got to accept the product service servitization which manufacturers can continuously create a new business model through innovation while also proposing practical plans that the market can agree to. This is also necessary for the continual enhancement of Korea, which has entered the global SDV technology-leading group initiated by Hyundai in the first place. SDV performance is a highly condensed technological mission that involves the following technologies: vehicle electric and electronic architecture, a variety of smart sensors and semiconductor parts, vehicle communication networks, high-capacity AI semiconductors, vehicle facilitation systems, system software frameworks that support dynamic distribution of software, cloud native computing, and on-device generative AI.
Having that SDV technology for vehicles that convey passengers, whether as drivers or passengers, requires absolute safety in mind, the vehicle industry needs to clearly recognise limits and focus on fundamental SW and semiconductor technology development, which is way beyond IT technology."

Hong, the professor, proposed the five ways for practicel roadmap to vitalize SDV business in vehicle industry.; discovery of killer service that perfectly meets customer needs, the SDV service demand area and discovery of development steps for completion and forming consesus between different parties in the vehicle industry, completion of technology roadmap to satisfy this development process while defining core skills and proceeding development based on and strategic choice making, setting a standard software architecture concerning service interoperability and taking practical steps from the industry and research institutes, initiating steps based on strategy to nurture the core system software experts in the SDV performance sector.
