[Consumerwide - Jinil Kang Reporter / Yohan Bok Reporter]   Three major communication businesses are continuing their ESG activities. Each business has begun its ESG activities. KT is initiating a film festival for people with visual impairments and an award event for a citizen with good deeds. LGU+ is leading the ESG-environmental IDC trend. SKT is expanding the reusable cup circulation system. ESG activities in business can be a measure of consumption value.

On the 30th, referring to industry, the KT Group Hope Sharing Foundation chose Kim Jaesik (47 years old), who is a resident of Gangwondo Yangyang, for the sixth Hope-Sharing award this year. The KT Group "Hope Sharing Award" has been designated by the KT Group Hope Sharing Foundation since 2021, aiming to spread the value of sharing while encouraging people who contribute to making beautiful social values by sharing.

The KT Group Hope Sharing Foundation said that they awarded Kim Jaesik to appreciate and encourage his effort to create an environment where children, the main players of the future generation, can grow healthily. Mr. Kim has been volunteering to paint small schools located in local areas for the last 11 years. Newly painted schools by his voluntary work count 100, and people call him "Daddy Long Legs." KT Group Hope Sharing Foundation plans to influence the area continually through the Hope Sharing Award for those who've been serving the community regardless of service location, age of participant, and area of voluntary work.

Earlier, KT hosted a barrier-free film festival for people with visual impairments at the Seoul Samsung School Sorisaem Welfare Centre. Barrier-free films now include additional elements such as subtitles and voiceovers to assist viewers' understanding. A total of 120 people, including 80 people who are students and staff of Seoul Samsung School, attended the festival. This time they screened the film "Sprinter". The barrier subtitle of Sprinter was produced by staff and executives of KT metropolitan headquarters, and KT Alpha, as a voluntary KT, clearly announced that they plan to continue with various ESG activities.

LGU+ began ESG activity by leading the environmental IDC trend. On the 26th, they completed the ESG IDC Pyoungchon Centre 2, located in Anyangsi Gyeonggido, which satisfied both quality and the environment. Pyeongchon Centre 2 contains 3 basement floors and 9 floors, and the entire space measures about 40,450 square metres, which equals six soccer fields. This giant IDC is capable of holding 200 thousand servers, and it includes energy reduction solutions such as a new air conditioning system, solar system, and fuel battery system. Their AC system can reduce over 50% of cooling energy compared to the former system by adopting a new cooling system that can utilise external cold air while managing the internal temperature. A high ceiling that reaches 6.9 metres long improves energy efficiency by enhancing the thermal insulation capacity of drywall. The office building began using renewable energy, which reduces electricity consumption through a fuel battery system and solar system, while utilising geothermal energy for air conditioning. The cooling and moisturising water consumption monitoring system assists in the efficient use of water. LGUplus looks forward to reducing carbon emissions by up to 55 thousand metric tonnes while reducing 121 GWh of energy, which equals an annual consumption of 100 thousand people. LGU plans to lead the ESG environmental IDC trend in the future through continuous studies and development for energy reduction while constructing high-quality IDC.

SKTelecom began expanding its reusable cup circulation system. SKT signed a treaty to supply a reusable cup circulation system to Jungbu Country Club in Gwangjusi Gyeonggido on the 23rd afternoon. Now, Jungbu Country Club has access to a reusable cup supply, which is the first time amongst golf clubs with a membership system located in Seoul and the Gyeonggi area. Through this system, Jungbu Country Club can reduce 120 thousand disposable cups annually, which is the same effect as reducing 3.5 tonnes of green gas, which 1500 pine trees absorb in one year. Earlier, SKT supplied reusable cups to Pinx Golf Club, Haevichi Country Club Jeju, Hongcheon Cascadia Golf Club, and Paju Jpublic Golf Club, along with collection and washing services. SKT is planning on encouraging golfers who care about the environment to participate in ESG activity while expanding the supply of reusable cups and reducing the use of disposable cups at the golf clubs in Seoul and Gyeonggi.
