[Consumerwide- Youngchul Woo Reporter/ Yohan Bok Reporter] The home appliance industry began taking social responsibility while contributing to local society through sharing, donating, and volunteering. It can be a measure of consumption value. Social responsibility is not an option, but a mandate.

LG Electronics began social contribution with subsidiaries businesses for neighbourhoods in need. On the 22nd, 70 members of four LG Electronics customer service subsidiaries, including Hi-plaza (sales service), Hi-teleservice (call consulting service), Hi-Msolutec (system ac maintenance and repair services), and Hi-Caresolution (subscription service), volunteered to give out free meals at Gangseo Senior Welfare Centre and Deungchon 1·4 Welfare Centre located in Seoul Gangseogu. They helped with washing dishes, lunch box delivery, and serving meals. After all the work, they donated three thousand kg of kimchi and delivered them to 300 households, which include citizens over 65 years old who are taking the national basic livelihood security programme and citizens with severe impairments.

On the same day, LG also donated 300 pieces of items to Beautiful Store. (a charitable initiative through the sale of donated clothes) Donation goods were collected by individual staff from the Daejeon, Daegu, Gwangju, and Busan local offices of LG Electronics Korea Sales Headquarters between November 8th and 20th. And the items include books, fashion items, and digital devices.

Samsung Electronics held a sharing day event on November 14th, and they have announced settlements for the last two weeks (since November 1st) of sharing activities.

107 thousand staff from 23 Samsung-affiliated businesses, including Samsung Electronics, participated in donations and blood donations through volunteering in the local area and kiosk sharing. The activities include plogging, software coding training at the children's centre, volunteer activities at the dog shalter, collecting ocean trash, serving food and cleaning for homeless people, giving guides and assisting citizens with impairments, and planting four thousand landscape trees. During the sharing weeks, they also facilitated a "donations on a daily basis" programme through a platform, through which any staff can donate one thousand won every time; a total of 0.2 billion won was donated. This donation is going to be used for children who need urgent support due to a rare disease or impairment. Besides, a blood donation campaign was held, and four thousand staff members participated. Also, Samsung has donated four blood donation buses to the Korean Red Cross.

Cockoo has sponsored the Yangsansi Welfare Fund by donating 369 Cockoo Electronics home appliance products totaling 44 million won, including an electric rice cooker and microwave, which can support warm meals for people in need. Donated appliances are going to be passed to the neighbourhoods in need in Gyeongnam and Yangsan area. The total product donation since 2016 has been worth 0.58 billion won.

Coway made the Fifth Coway Clean School Classroom Forest at Gangseo Elementary School in Seoul on November 14th. Twenty Coway staff passed on environmental educational kits for improving recognition on environmental issues, along with 491 plants, including Areca palm and Asplenium antiquum Makino (air purifying plants), to twenty classes at Gangseo Elementary School in Yangcheongu, Seoul.
