[Consumerwide - HueSoung Jun Reporter / Yohan Bok Reporter] Here is a divine opportunity to look through artworks by a founding figure of conceptual art, Lawrence Weiner (1942-2021). "Lawrence Weiner: Under the sun" is the first presentation since he passed away in 2021, as well as the first solo presentation in Asia hosted by the Amorepacific Museum of Art as they celebrate the fifth year or anniversary. During the exhibition, which is between 31st of Aug and 28th of Jan 2024, you have an opportunity to check out 47 pieces of Lanaguage Sculpture work.

At 11am on the 1st of Sept, the reporter visited the Amorepacific Museum of Art to see the solo presentation of Lawrence Weiner, "Lawrence Weiner: Under the sun".

There were only 4 visitors, excluding the reporter, at the time. I suspected there were only a few because it hadn't been long since the exhibition began, as well as concerning the time being the morning  of weekdays. Thus, I was able to enjoy the pieces at a slow pace. However, I wasn't able to listen to the visitors regarding art pieces.

On that day, an associated person from the Amorepacific Museum of Art said during an interview with Consumerwide, "We haven't got many visitors because it has not been long since the exhibition began. Currently, we have 80 reservations for today, and 200 people for each Sat and Sun. I assume that there will be an increase in the number of visitors as time passes." Regarding the response of visitors, he said, "It's got many colors, while being text centered. Thus, visitors take quite a lot of pictures while asking how the artist glued the text on the art pieces."

The solo presentation by Lawrence Weiner was presented in the seven exhibition halls, and a total of 47 pieces of language sculptures were presented, including "Under the Sun (1999/2000)" and "A bit of Matter and a little bit more (1976)". In particular, the 7 pieces, including the "As far as the eye can see (1998)" were installed along with a Korean translation, which demonstrates an extension of meanings beyond language and culture. It was noticeable that there was no explanation in each piece. Instead, they quoted words from the artist's interview. It is the philosophy of the artist who rejected giving a specific meaning in his works.

Along with them, you can also enjoy the art world of Weiner over 60 years through the continuing pieces, including the "Smashed to pieces (In the still of the night)(1971)", which is an early work in the 70s, "To see and be seen (1972)", "An object tossed from one country to another (1988)", "Under the sun (1999/2000)", "On view (2020)", and "Removed from view (2020)".

Lawrence Weiner has been evaluated as a founding figure of conceptual art for contributing to the core trend of Minimulism and Conceptual art, along with Carl Andre, Robert Barry, Dan Flavin, Joseph Kosuth, Sol LeWitt.
