[Consumerwide- Youngchul Woo Reporter/ Yohan Bok Reporter] Representative Korean street foods, including Bungeoppang (fish-shaped buns), Tteokbokki (spicy rice cakes), and Hotteok (Korean sweet pancakes), are entering the homemade convenience food industry as quite a number of food businesses are inventing and presenting them. This can be a new alternative for consumers who value street food.

Ottogi has presented two types of frozen bungeoppang products, according to industry, on the 15th. One is a bungeoppang with soft and sweet pat (red bean), and the other one is with premium shu cream. Both contain plenty of cream or pat, so consumers can enjoy them until the last bite. The dough is made out of tapiocca powder to maximise chewy texture. Once you cook frozen product for nine minutes in an air fryer that is heated to 180 °C, a crunchy (surface texture) and chewy (inside texture) bungeoppang is soon made. As it became harder to find bungeoppang sellers on the streets, a new term, "Bungsegweon (vicinity to bungeoppang sellers)," appeared in Korea. But now, by purchasing the homemade bungeoppang products, homes are turning to Bungsegweon.

On the other hand, tteockbkki, one of the leading street foods in Korea, has already entered the homemade convenience food market. Many food businesses have been releasing a variety of tteokbokki products, including the "Pure Black Pepper (steadysekker of Ottogi) Tteokbokki" of Ottogi in February, reflecting consumer needs.

An associated person from Ottogi said, "Due to COVID-19 and the high cost rise, more consumers are wanting to enjoy street foods, such as bungeoppang and tteokbokki, easily at home. We will consistently present products that satisfy the tastes of consumers and their lifestyles.

Hotteok and hoppang, which are also common Korean street foods, became commercialized. Recently, Pulmuone Foods presented "Jjolgit Basak Hotteok" (chewy and crunchy) by using low-temperature fermentation with fresh yeast technology on dough. In the 2023 and 2024 seasons, SPC Samlip is presenting 17 types of hoppangs. The product line includes traditional lines (most representative products), which are Danpat (sweet red bean), Yatchea (vegetable), and Pizza hoppangs; variety taste lines, which are Maekomkimchi (spicy kimchi); Cheesechareureuk (plenty of cheese) hoppangs; meal replacement lines, which are Hwareureuktteokbokki (extremely spicy tteokbokki); and Marajjimdak (braised spicy mara chicken) hoppangs; and lines targeting the young generation, which are Daepacreamcheese (large onion and cream cheese); and Hwangcheese (gold cheese) hoppangs.
