LG U+, staring 'U+hopetree' activity which nurtures a forest

KT, expanding 'Digital receipts' in order to spare trees and reduce carbon emissions.

[Consumerwide_Jinil, Kang Reporter / Yohan, Bok Reporter] On the 5th of April, celebrating arbor day, domestic mobile communication businesses began sparing trees for a better environment. LGUplus practiced planting acorn trees while KT targeted spare trees by expanding the use of digital receipts. 

First of all, on the 4th, LGUplus transplanted seedlings to No-eul-soop(Seoul, Sangamdong), which seedlings their staff members and executives planted. This is the 'U+hopetree' activity.

U+ Hopetree is a representative carbon neutralization activity of LGUplus, which they have been doing since last 2014 on a regular basis. The staff members and executives of LGU are chosen by order of receipt. After that, they nurture acorn seeds at home or company for three months till it grow. Those seedlings are transplanted to the No-eul park. This year, they've newly planted 500 seedlings which involves 500 participants.

LGUplus is looking forward to reducing fine-dust and CO2 through U+hopetree. An average grown acorn tree can reduce 35.7g of fine dust and 2.5tons of CO2 during one year. Hence, if these 500 seedlings fully grow, we may expect a reduce of 1250 tons of CO2 and 17kg of fine dust for one year.

Kim Hyoungjun, an advertising business team leader of LGUplus, who also has participated in the transplanting said, "I participated in the 'U+hopetree', hoping that our company will grow just like the acorn tree which grows every day. Along with this participation, I will try to continue to care about the environment on a daily basis."

Lee Hongryeol, the LGUplus manager of ESG promotion said, "LGUplus has been doing various activities with staff members and executives aiming to practice environmental management  and carbon neutralization. We will continually strengthen ESG management so that we may settle as a presentative business which takes full social responsibility."

Meanwhile, KT decided to expand digital receipts targeting spare trees and reducing carbon emissions so as to celebrate arbor day. KT is attempting the expansion of digital receipts through an event, which gives out various free giveaways if any KT customer switches their receipt to one of four receipt types; a mobile receipt, an email receipt, a kt.com web-receipt, a mobile notification receipt; by the 19th of May, and apply for the event on the KT homepage. 

Using a digital receipt is convenient while contributing to the environment. In particular, 

 ▲ you can quickly and easily check details on your bill ▲you won't get exposed to a danger of personal information leakage through lost or mistaken delivery. You are also free from a delayed post. In addition, ▲you can contribute to reducing emissions while saving resources which have been wasted in the process of post-receipt production and delivery.

KT explained, "So far, 20 million KT customers are using a digital receipt. For the last 10 years we have reached a reduction of carbon emissions to 5700 tons while having 20000 tree planting effect through a digital receipt switching business."

KT is giving away ▲LGcodezero A9 wireless cleaner(3people), ▲Freitag messenger bag (10people), ▲Loccitane bodywash and soap set (50people), ▲Oliveyoung mobile boucher (100people), ▲Starbucks coffee boucher (1000 people) through a lottery system among the event participants. In addition, GinieTV user customers get the additional benefit of a TV coupon worth 3000 won.

Park Hyoil, the customer experience innovation general manager of KT said, "KT has been striving to contribute with good influence through social responsibility management and resolving environmental and social issues. These are tiny activities. Nevertheless, we will constantly put an effort into the expansion of ESG activity so that ESG may be easily practiced on everyone's daily basis."
