[Distribution trend] Furnitures are interior...'customized furniture' trend

Shinsegae Casa·Emons·Ilva, the furniture industry is demonstrating customized furniture

No color choices for each module, no color changes while using it, taking over 20 days from order to delivery(make-to-order system)

[Consumerwide_ Yohan, Bok Reporter] The furniture industry is having a strong movement for customized products. In the former market, consumers had to purchase uniform furniture. But, recently, interior trends are rapidly changing as more people are getting interested in house interiors. It has become a trend that people decorate space with products that reflect personal taste rather than purchasing a series of furniture. For this reason, the furniture industry is extending customized product sales.

On the 21st, followed by industry, Shinsegae Casa has started 'Casamia bespoke atelier service, which is a customized product sale service. If you choose a sofa (with options), you have a choice of design, leather type, and color. This is a 100% domestic make-to-order product. However, you haven't got a choice for each module. Materials are limited to leather, but no fabrics.

Leather has three choices; aniline (pure leather) 'Signature', and Italian premium aniline 'Premium', and pigment leather 'Standard', which is easy to use and maintain. It has 15 color choices, including light gray, brown, blue and green. Having make-to-order methods, it takes about 20 days from order to delivery. (excl. weekends and holidays) the price ranges are 4~6 million won for La maison Carmo, 3~4 million won for Casamia Great and Hive. (approx. 3~4 million won)

Last March, Emons started to sell customized furniture. Emons has been selling customized sofas for 3~4 people (3/3.5/4) with color choices. While extending customized furniture, Emons has also launched a customer service system where you can discuss colors and styles of furniture in offline shops.

Meanwhile, Ilva started a furniture make-to-order service, which reflects consumer needs, on 13th of July. When you purchase furniture you can choose the color, material, and size you like. In particular, the A-pcs sofa, which is a winning customized furniture in Ilva, can be produced with various colors and material options, other than just basic velvet covers.

Still, it leaves a room for improvement. It is easy to picture the bespoke home appliances when you think of customized furniture. Home appliance products have a choice of any wanted colors. You can change colors even while using them, if you pay for them. However, most of customized furniture doesn't have a service for individual module color changes. Moreover, it is impossible to change colors while using them. Plus, it takes over 20days (excl. weekends and holidays) from order to delivery because of a make-to-order production system. Prices are expensive in comparison to regular furniture. Furniture with choice is limited to sofas.

In relation to this, a Shinsegae casa-related person said during an interview with Consumerwide, "Officially, we do not run a service for individual module color change, but we aim to get various customized services. Recently, as more people are into house interiors, people seem to prefer to decorate space with products that contain their own taste rather than purchasing a series of furniture. The premium trend is leading to customized products that meet personal needs. Having this in mind, Shinsegae casa will try to satisfy customer needs focusing on personal taste through 'Casamia bespoke atelier service'. Furthermore, we are planning to build up our service as a core service for Wedding customers."
