[Consumerwide_ HueSoung, Jun Reporter / Yohan, Bok Reporter] Recently Volvo Cars Korea released the XC40 recharge, the partial change model. XC40 recharge is an electric car that was exhibited along with C40 recharge last Feb.

C40 recharge is a coupe SUV electric car whereas XC40 recharge is an electrification model of IC engine model XC40. C40 recharge has a tight rear view comparatively, but XC40 recharge has a wide rear view.

Customers have an access to various services; T map (navigation with the highest quality in Korea), AI platform (User voice recognition), NUGU, music platform, TMAP infotainment combined by FLO.

No changes in powertrain between new and old models. A dual electric motor of 408 hp (max torque 67.3kg·m) and a four-wheel system has applied.

Energy efficiency is max. 337km (downtown 363km, highway 306km) on a single charge, conditioned by 4.9sec/ 0km~100km.

In addition to that, TMAP infotainment and digital package for an electric car, Harman Kardon premium sound system, and ADAS functions are provided.

I tried on the old XC40 because the new XC40 had a waiting time of a month or two. Test driving was held in Seoul downtown and highway for 164.4km.

There is not much difference between XC40 recharge and IC engine XC40 from a design perspective. However, the XC40 recharge doesn't have a start button. Same as C40 recharge, driving starts when you step on break, and place gear on Drive. XC40 began with a smooth move. XC40 IC engine operates softly. But XC40 was even more so. It felt like slipping over the road surface when the car was moving forward.

There is no gear in the XC40 recharge. Hence, no sudden shake while shifting gears. The accelerator responds sensitively as I step on it. Even on uphill roads, the power is sufficient.

Riding comfort is just similar to the XC40 IC engine. Not much emitting sound. Road surface noise and vibration were at the same level. Pilot Assist, which is used to maintain a safe distance between cars, and keeps vehicles centered, is trustworthy. This function is beneficial for long-distance travel as well as downtown driving. Performance at the speed limit section is remarkable. XC40 recharge drives according to the speed set while maintaining an appropriate distance. Start and stop processes are gentle.

We had a chance to check out the charging capability during the test drive. XC40 recharge supported fast charging. It took 50 minutes to reach a full charge starting from 10%. Meanwhile, the TMAP infotainment service was a big help. While driving, we were guided to an electric car charge station through navigation. The battery was at 10% by the time. Test drive energy efficiency was 17.7kwh/100km for 164.4km driving.

TMAP infotainment service gives practical information; battery time remaining at the destination as you navigate, estimating the distance to empty, suggestions on charging station near me, adding waypoints, and monitoring battery condition in real-time.

However, it would have been better if XC40 recharge had a ventilated seat, which function is loved by Korean customers. Recently released cars in Korea, both Korean and imported cars are adding ventilated seats. XC40, XC40 recharge, XC40 2022, and XC40 recharge models do not have ventilated seats.
